"The mission of these Amazing Race events is to not only raise money for charity, but to do so in a creative, interesting way that fosters interaction and community building between youth groups in NYC."
- Alexander Guo
The first Amazing Race fundraiser event was arranged by Division 11 Executive Assistant Alexander Guo in the summer of 2010. The first Amazing Race took place in Chinatown, Soho, and South Street Seaport. After successfully raising almost $500 for charity, Amazing Race-style fundraisers became an annual tradition. The next year, Lt.G. Herman Li continued the tradition and arranged an Amazing Race fundraiser in the Flushing and Corona Park areas in Queens. In 2012, Alexander Guo came back to organize the third one in the lower Manhattan area, which included Battery Park City, Soho, and Washington Square Park.
Attendance at these youth-run Amazing Race fundraiser events has grown exponentially through the years, from about 50 participants in 2010 to almost 500 in 2012.
This year, the event will be bigger than ever and will be held in a new location in Manhattan. Collaborating with Division 11 Lt.G. Lillian Xie this year, Alex has organized a planning committee to ensure that this year's event will run more smoothly and efficiently.
